Appeal for service extension

IMPHAL, Aug 17: The All Manipur Hill Districts Contract Basis Teachers’ Association (AMHDCBTA) has appealed to the state government to extend their services for another one year.
A release of the association stated that the state government should give proper attention towards the upliftment of education in the hill areas of the state.  The teachers on contract have been imparting quality education to the hill students and the extension of the said contract is for the welfare of the students and for the teachers, it said.

Altogether 1332 contract teachers were appointed by the education (S) department on merit basis and as per the MoU signed between the state government and ATSUM in 2006. Even the regular appointment of teachers could not fulfill the exact required number of teachers in the hill districts and so it would be quite wrong on the part of the state government to oust the contract teachers all of a sudden, the release said.

The association further appealed to the concerned authority to extend the service of contract teachers for another one year in view of the welfare of the hill students who are lagging behind in the field of education in the state.
