Editors flay threat to hills scribe

IMPHAL, Aug 26: The Editors’ Forum, Manipur, has condemned the act of threatening a reporter of the Lamka Post by the finance secretary of KNF (MC).
A release of the Editors’ Forum said that a special meeting was convened this afternoon to discuss the matter. The forum demanded the state government to closely monitor the working of various organizations which are currently under the suspension of operation and also urged the organization to withdraw the intimidation served to reporter Tombing.

The forum also decided to render solidarity to the movements of Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union and AMWJU, added the release.

M Kaimuanthang adds from Churachandpur: An agreement has been reached between the Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union, MHJU, and the KNF (MC) over the threat and intimidation to PK Tombing, a reporter of Lamka Post daily by one of its functionaries.
The MHJU and Commander-in-Chief of KNF had discussions about the impasse and finally reached an understanding, said the MHJU in a release while appealing to all concerned to withdraw cases in connection with the issue.

The MHJU sources further said publication of newspapers will resume from August 28 while expressing gratitude to the AMWJU and social leaders apart from some MDC’s for extending support to them

Protesting the violation of the rights and freedom of the press, the union had been on a dharna since the August 25.
