Heirangoithong shuts down against DRDA official’s killing

IMPHAL, Aug 10: The Joint action committee against the brutal killing of Wairakpam Boby alias Priyokanta, 39 years, son of W. Achou of Heirangoithong, a Public Information Officer of DRDA working under Block Development Office Tengnoupal T.D Block today organized a sit-in protest at Heirangoithong bazar by closing all the bazar area shops.

While speaking to mediapersons condemning the killing of W. Boby, JAC convenor L. Romen disclosed that the JAC has taken a five-point resolution to submit to the Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh to initiate appropriate action against the killing.

He further said the demands include “to request the government to produce a white paper as well as to book the culprit within 10 days, to pay salary as it is to his family which he got during his job until retirement as he died during his duty, a alternative government job to the family, appropriate compensation, and if the concerned fail to turn up the JAC would in interest of the family launch an agitation.

The younger brother of the deceased, W. Nanao disclosed that the family had also met the SP of Chandel and during the meeting he assured help to find the cause of the death of late W. Boby. At present the post mortem report is waiting, he said.

W. Nanao further condemned his brother’s companion staffs of Moreh for not visiting them since the day the police brought his brother dead.

In the meantime, it may be mentioned that deceased W. Boby alias Priyokanta was found dead on August 7 inside the campus of ADC Moreh in suspicious circumstances with a number of bruise marks on his body.

Placards stating “we strongly condemn killing of W. Boby’, ‘Protect Our Right to Life’, ‘Punish the culprit’ etc. were used during the sit-in protest.
