I-Day celebrated in Ccpur

IMPHAL, Aug 13: The 63rd Independence Day of India was celebrated at Churachandpur by 27 sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division. The festivity was planned as a run up for the 15th August 2010 over a period of two days.

The proceedings included a congregation of events at various locations in Churachandpur which was inaugurated by Brigadier Surendra Mehta, commander 27 Sector Assam Rifles, designed for the people of all ages of the district especially the children.

A release of PIB (Defence Wing) said that as a prelude to the run up celebrations an event was organized at Thinghat in August 11 which included choreography, solo song, skit, speech and poem recitation competitions. The celebrations on August 13, 2010 commenced from St. Mary’s High School with a football match between the children of different houses of the school with an outstanding military band display.

A painting competition was also organized at L. Foundation School with over 200 children participating in the event on the themes “Unity through diversity” and “Culture of Manipur”, added the release.
