IMPHAL, Aug 11: The Kuki Inpi, Saikul, has drawn the attention of the concerned authority to construct one RCC bridge at Saikul over the Ithai River which will serve as the main connecting bridge between Saikul and Ukhrul.

Speaking to mediapersons during an inspection tour, the president of Kuki Inpi, Saikul, Thangkham Lupheng stated that there is no proper bridge at Saikul over the Ithai River. However, the village authority has constructed a temporary wooden bridge which connects with Ukhrul.

He further said that the people of Saikul area are in a miserable condition owing to the lack of proper roads and bridges. The state government has failed to take up any development work at Saikul area, he noted.

He stated that MLA Haokholet Khongsai included construction of the said bridge in the work programme in 1980 but the work was not accomplished. Again, in 1996 MLA C. Doungel changed the work programme of construction of the bridge from BMS to PMGSY scheme, Lupheng added.

The state government has totally neglected the development of Saikul area. The Molkon Bazar Board has been repairing the temporary wooden bridge from time to time for the convenience of the people, he asserted.
