IMPHAL, Aug 22: A 21-day national workshop on “Manuscriptology and Paleography” jointly organized by Manipur State Archives and national Mission for Manuscripts, New Delhi was inaugurated today at Manipur State Archives Complex, Keishampat, Imphal.

The inaugural function was graced by Prof. Dipti S. Tripathi, director of National Mission for Manuscripts, New Delhi as the chief guest and Padmashri RK Jhaljit as the president.

Addressing the inaugural function, Prof. Dipti Tripathi stated that manuscripts are great sources of historical facts and evidences. It is through the manuscripts of ancient civilization that the present day people have become well advanced in every field, she noted.

She said that the workshop will further enhance the capabilities of scholars and researchers into making further researches in manuscriptology and paleography, which is the study of ancient forms of writing.

The chief guest Prof. Tripathi also inaugurated an exhibition of manuscripts showcasing many rare ancient texts of Manipur.
