Imphal, Aug 24: A non-local who was shot at by armed miscreants succumbed to his injury this evening at the RIMS hospital.
The victim was identified as one Mohon Sahu, 45, of Lewa village Khagaria district of Bihar.
Sources said that he has been working in Imphal for about 15 years as a laborer. He is survived by his wife and two daughters who are currently staying at Bihar.
Official sources said that the incident occurred around 7:30 pm. The laborer was reportedly shot at by two armed miscreants in front of the gate of his rented house belonging to Wahengbam Ningol Chaibi of Wahengbam Makha Leikai.
The victim was on his way to his apartment after fetching water from a nearby reservoir in preparation for his dinner.
Immediately after hearing the gun shots and people nearby rushed out and found the victim lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to the RIMS hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The victim sustained injuries at his right chest.
The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained as according to some of the colleagues of the victim there were no threats or intimidation.
