Nine militants nabbed by security forces

IMPHAL, Aug 22: Security forces arrested at least nine militant cadres in separate counter insurgency operations held in different parts of the state.

A statement of the PRO IGAR (S) said that Assam Rifles troops arrested three militant cadres from different places.

In the first incident, discovering the movement of UG cadres in general area of Yairipok, troops of 15 Assam Rifles of 9 sector under HQ IGAR (S) apprehended one PULF (Umar Farooq faction) on August 21 at about 2:25 pm.

The arrested individual is identified as one Md Hedayatullah, 31, sdn of Late Md. Habibulla of Yairipok Tulihal Mayai Leikai. One motorcycle (Kawasaki Calibar regn. No. MN05-8500-01, Helmet, driving license, pan card, a diary, wallet containing Rs. 800, one mobile phone, and two SIM cards were recovered from his possession and he has been handed over to Thoubal police along with the recovered items.

Another statement issued by PIB defense wing, said that a joint team of 39 Assam rifles and 16 Maratha Light Infantry under the aegis of Red Shield division arrested a self styled district commander of Imphal East of the proscribed KCP (MC) Tabungba faction namely Amarjeet Hing Embam Singh, 32, son of Indra Singh of Chingmeirong along with his accomplice Ngouba Meitei, 33, son of Gulpi Meitei of Tenla Makha Leikai.
The individuals were arrested early morning today.

The statement further said that in another operation by the 16 Maratha Light infantry under 57 Mountain Division two cadres of the proscribed PLA and over worker of KCP (MC) were arrested this morning. The individuals were involved in extorting money from local public and through other illegal activities, added the statement.

At the same time, a combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and 42 AR arrested a cadre of the proscribed UNLF while conducting a search operation in and around Tentha Khunjao on August 21 at about 3pm, informed a statement issued by the SSP Thoubal district police.
The individual is identified as one Surjit Singh, 31, son of M. Inaomacha Singh of Tentha Khunjao Mayai Leikai.

It said that on questioning the individual revealed that he worked for the UNLF under the command of one Sapam Mohon Singh of Tentha Khunjao and he delivered demand letters to government employees, contractors and businessmen in Tentha area.
