Relevance of renewable energy brought forth

IMPHAL, Aug 20: As part of the nation-wide celebration of the “Renewable Energy Day” marking the birthday of the late prime minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, the day was celebrated in various parts of the state.

The state level function was organized by the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA), the state Nodal Agency of the Ministry, at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Sanglen.

As part of the celebration, awareness cum publicity rally on the theme “Renewable Energy to Masses” was organized and participated by about 1300 women coming from all over the state covering some parts of the Imphal East district.

The occasion was graced by AN. Jha, IAS principal secretary (finance/forest and environment) cum Chairman MANIREDA, H. Imocha Singh, IAS commissioner (S and T/IFCD/Transport) cum Member secretary, MANIREDA and L. Manglem Singh, Director, MANIREDA as chief guest, president and guest of honour of the function respectively.

Y. Kholchandra, senior scientific officer, MANIREDA, in his welcome speech spoke about the reason behind the observation of the day and the importance, relevance, scope of renewable energy today.

Showing an 18-minute documentary on achievements of MANIREDA in the renewable sector, video clipping of 10 women achievers, presentation of gifts to the women achievers by the chief guest, presentation of gifts to 10 toppers of HSLC examinations by the functional president marked the celebration.
