Residents faces brunt as fuel scarcity hits Manipur

Imphal, August 22 (ANI): Residents of Imphal are facing the brunt of an ongoing economic blockade, which has hit fuel supply in the region.
The United Naga Council (UNC) gave the blockade call, demanding among others, a judicial enquiry into the killing of two students in police firing on May 6.

Employees at the petrol filling stations said the supply has almost exhausted.

“Since yesterday, just one vehicle has come to refill the petrol tank from this petrol pump. Now the situation of this petrol pump is also critical as the fuel can be exhausted at any moment,” said Sanjay Tamang, a petrol pump employee.

Locals were seen standing in long queues in front of the only running petrol filling station to get their vehicles refueled.

“They (the government) just announced that they are giving it (fuel) in full quantity, but they are not providing it in good quantity. Even right now, we are not getting it that is why all of us are standing in a queue. They (the petrol pump) are giving it for sometime only, as they are saying that they do not have fuel anymore. So we all are facing this severe problem,” said Abdul, a local resident of Imphal.

The ongoing 20-day blockade that began on August 4 comes after a 68-day blockade called by the UNC.
