Security forces nab 13 militants over three days

IMPHAL, Aug 23: Security forces have nabbed 13 militants in all since August 21 marking a rise in the arrest of underground elements over the last week. Rs. 8 lakhs was also seized from one of the militants.

Security forces while apprehending two underground activists from different parts of the state since yesterday have been able to seize Rs. 8 lakhs from one of the apprehendees.

According to a release of the SP Imphal west district, a team of Imphal west district police commandos acting on credible information arrested one UNLF activist from Khuman Palli near MMTA yesterday at about 8:20 pm.

The arrested activist has been identified as Sorokhaibam Dhaneshwor Singh alias Bungba, 35, son of S Brojen Singh of Khurai Chinganbam Leikai.

It has further stated that on spot verification the apprehended activist disclosed himself as a contractor of FCI but was assigned to extort money from the general public under one s/s major Sarat alias Chaoren, revenue officer of UNLF.

Furthermore, it has stated that one 7.62 bore pistol along with magazine having six live rounds, one Nokia handset with one Aircel SIM having mobile no 9615554149 were seized from the arrested activist.

A gun licence book having licence no 1071/DM/IE, Rs 8 lakhs and one foreign passport were also seized from the possession of the arrested activist, added the release.

In another incident, troops of Assam Rifles located at Thoubal of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one KYKL cadre from the general area of Yambam at around 1:30 am today.

According to a release of the PRO, IGAR (South) the apprehended cadre has been identified as M Ibomcha Singh, 43, son of Irabot Moirangthem resident of Yambem.

A combined team of Imphal East commandos and 23 Assam Rifles arrested a PREPAK (GS) cadre namely Moirangthem Ibomcha alias Chingkhei Singh, 39, son of M Nongyai Singh of Pukhao Naharup from the same area today at around 9.30 am.

On verification the cadre disclosed that he joined the outfit in the month of June 2009 through one SS Imphal East commander Kabi of the PREPAK. He was also involved in the kidnapping of Ratan, the headmaster of Khurai Popular High School and a driver of the Northern Transport, Nagamapal.

Meanwhile, on August 22 at around 12.05 am, a team of commando Imphal East, 39 Assam Rifles and 16 Maratha arrested two KYKL (MDF) cadres namely Khangembam Amitra alias Netra alias Amarjit Singh, 37, son of Kh Indrajit Singh of Moirang Khunou and Elangbam Ngouba Meitei, 33, son of E Gulapi Meitei of Tentha Makha Leikai from Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai and recovered one Nokia cell phone with SIM card from the possession of Ngouba.

On verification Khangembam Amitra said he joined the KYKL in the year 2001 through one SS Commander Prem of the finance department of the outfit. Ngouba said he joined the outfit in May 2010 through one Amitra and was involved in the transportation of arms and ammunition from one place to another.

Further, on August 21 at 9.30 am, a team of commandos Imphal East arrested a PREPAK cadre named Thiyam Birmangol alias Tachou Singh, 58, son of Late Th Chandramani Singh of Patsoi Part-III from Checkon crossing. He disclosed that he was under the command of SS Publicity Secretary Malemnganba of the PREPAK and was transporting arms and ammunition from one place to another.

On the same day at around 5 pm, a combined team of Imphal East commandos and 28 Assam Rifles arrested two PREPAK cadres named Chingsubam Lalit alias Nanao Singh, 23, son of Late Ch Rona Singh of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai and Chingsubam Johnny alias Amuba Singh, 18, son of Late Ch Romy of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai from Singjamei Bamon Leikai.

On verification they disclosed that they joined the outfit in the month of July 2010 through one Birjit and were working under one Ibohal and were involved in extortion of money from the general public, government officials and businessmen and were also involved in transportation of arms and ammunition and recruiting boys from the locality.

Two more PREPAK cadres, Chabungbam Kiran alias Keirungba Singh, 45, son of Ch Amubi Singh of Keirao Lairembi Leikai and Nepram Sanjoy alias Eshu Singh, 22, son of N Shyam Singh of Thongju Pheija Leitong were arrested from their respective houses at about 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm respectively. They disclosed that they joined the outfit in the month of May 2010 through one Ibohal and were involved in extortions.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Thoubal CDO and 42 AR while conducting search operations at Pallel area arrested two cadres of the KCP(MC) yesterday. The arrested individuals are identified as brothers Moirangthem Ajit (27) S/o Ibomcha of Pallel Maning Leikai and Moirangthem Kumar@ Naobi.

They revealed that they were working in the finance section of the outfit under the command of one SS Major John of the KCP(MC).

In another incident, a combined team of Thoubal commandos and 21 AR whle conducting frisking along Sugnu road between Elangkhangpokpi and Thongjao apprehanded another KCP(MC) cadre namely Yumnam Jiten @ nanao @ Ibungo (28) S/o Y.Ingo of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai at around 8.30 am today and recovered one 9mm pistol with 2 live rounds and one honda activa,stated a release by Sr. SP of Thoubal Clay Khongsai.
