Security out to nab bomb hurling miscreants after increase in incidents

IMPHAL, Aug 21: Concerned over the high number of bomb attacks on top officials of the state government settled in Greater Imphal areas in the past few days, the state police department has taken up intense security measures by deploying new recruits from the Manipur Police Training School at Pangei and men from the Village Defence Force (VDF) in vulnerable areas like the various departments. The attacks have been carried out over monetary damands by militants, police said.

The latest case was the hurling of a bomb in the courtyard of a retired accountant of the treasury department named Soibam Anandi, 63, wife of Late Soibam Iboyaima of Chanam Pukhri Mapal Ningthoujam Leikai under Singjamei police station. The attack came at around 9.40 pm last night and the bomb which fell in the courtyard exploded without causing any harm to those present in the vicinity of the blast.

In the meantime, the local public of Chanam Pukhri Mapal staged a sit-in protest today to condemn the bomb attack. During the protest they sought a proper clarification from those involved in creating panic in the area.

It may be mentioned that miscreants exploded a bomb at the Nongmeibung Chakpram Leikai residence of the Managing Director of the Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Wahengbam Nilamani in the wee hours yesterday.
