60 years of ECI history spotlighted at exhibition

IMPHAL, Sept 13: The Election Commission of India in collaboration with the DAVP has organised an exhibition titled ‘India and Election’ to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee year of ECI at the Tribal Research Institute in Imphal.

Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat, who inaugurated the three day long exhibition, said the photo exhibition will highlight achievements of the ECI during the past 60 years apart from enhancing the knowledge and importance of elections among the general public.

The Governor further stated the photo exhibition will make the people aware of the importance of elections.

Altogether 34 panels of photographs featuring past 60 years election in India along with photographs of local significance in Manipur are being displayed in the exhibition.

The exhibition is being held on the theme ‘Greater participation for a stronger democracy’.

The inaugural function was also attended by JP Prakash, deputy election commissioner, New Delhi, PC Lawmkunga, CEO Manipur and K Katamani, deputy director, DAVP, regional office, Guwahati.

After the inaugural function, the Governor released the statistical report on the 15th Lok Sabha Election in Manipur, 2009.
