Agri officials inspect model seed villages

    IMPHAL, Sep 26: The Monitoring Committee of the Model Seed village of the agriculture department which was taken up with integrated Nutrient Management and Integrated Pest Management in the valley areas of the state inspected Saiton and Ithai in Bishnupur district and Tentha in Thoubal district.
    During the inspection program deputy director planning G.Samu Kabui, deputy director Ph. Rajendro, Leitam Nabachandra, head of department Antimony agriculture department and other model seed village expert committee members and official were also present.
    While speaking to mediapersons, deputy director of the agriculture department Ph. Rajendra said the state agriculture department targeted to produce 5.23 lakh MT of high yield variety crops like IR-64, Tampha Phou, RCM, Sana Phou etc. which were taken up in Model Seed Village in valley areas of the state. However due to conflict in the state and bad law and order system and scarcity of the fertilizers faced recently by the state farmers the target may not be met.
    He further said the last Rabi cropping season successfully took up double cropping with selected farmers of the state and for the coming Rabi cropping the department is ready to supply Rabi season seeds to the state farmers. The seeds will be distributed from the first week of October this year. During this season the department will also launch a massive awareness campaign on cropping of pea.
    He further added that under the Rastriya Krishi Vikash Yojna (RKVY) scheme the state different farmers will be able to enjoy the benefits from DAO of different concerned department like agriculture, horticulture, sericulture, fisheries, Vety and Animal Husbandry etc.
    About the inspection today, he said that the seed which are taken up in model seed village are going to be bought by the department itself for further generation of the seeds. He requested the selected farmers to take more initiative in farming by obeying the advice of the experts.
    Deputy Planning G Samu Kabui also added that the inspection was to oversee the production of healthy certified seeds of high yield variety.
