ASEAN nations’ ambassadors, high commissioners to visit state

Imphal, Sep 3: As a part of the initiative for the proposed ‘Look East Policy’ a team of Ambassadors/High Commissioners of ASEAN Countries led by HE Dato Tan Sengsong (High Commissioner of Malaysia) will be visiting the state capital on September 19 and 20 this year.

According to a highly placed official source, the visiting ambassadors and High Commissioners of the ASEAN countries will call on the Chief Minister and ministers at the CM’s Bungalow in the afternoon of September 19 to discuss various issues related to the development aspects of the state and responsible role which are to be  played by Manipur in the proposed Look East Policy, soon after the delegates arrive in the state capital.

Thereafter, the delegates will be having a meeting with the chief secretary, DGP, PCCE and senior state officials at Hotel Classic hall where there will be representations from the state officer concerned to the visiting Ambassadors and High Commissioners on Manipur’s desire to benefit from the proposed Look East Policy, the official source added.

The official source further mentioned that the state level preparative meeting was recently convened under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary of Manipur and attended by all secretaries, commissioners, and head of departments in view of the proposed visit of the Ambassadors and High Commissioners, and also to highlight the agenda of the state government in various aspects of development.

As per the official tentative tour programme of the state government, the visiting Ambassadors and High Commissioners will be visiting Moreh from Imphal by road under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner of Chandel and ADC Moreh under high security protection on September 20 this year as part of a field visit and the team will return to Imphal on the same day. On September 21 the delegates from outside will depart from the Imphal Airport in the noon for Aizwal, the source added.
