IMPHAL, Sep 24: The Imphal West district police commandos arrested at least five militant cadres belonging to different groups who are actively involved in various anti-social activities like extortions and arms activities from different places.
According to a statement issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police, L. Kailun, acting on credible information a team of the district police commandos arrested two activists of the proscribed KCP from Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai near NRL Oil Pump on September evening around 7:15 pm.
The individuals were identified as one Kshetrimayum Binoy alias Kebe, 28, son of Ksh. Prafolo Singh of Singjamei Kshetri Leikai and Naorem Iboyaima alias Naobi, 31, son of N. Dhaka Singh of Singjamei Meisnam Leikai.
It said that on spot verification the arrested cadres disclosed that they were assigned to serve demand letters to general public at Singjamei areas. Further, they said they were involved in hurling grenades and firing rounds at houses in the said area.
It further said that on further verification another woman cadre of KCP was arrested on the following day at about 10:30 am from her house who was identified as one Oinam Indra, 30, son of Late O. Manitombi Singh of Singjamei Oinam Thingel Leikai. She disclosed that she was assigned to transport arms and ammunitions and incriminating documents relating to the outfit under instruction of Ningombam Arun alias Santosh of Ningom Thongjao, added the statement.
In yet another incident the police commandos of the district arrested two cadres of the KLO/KLA from Khuman Lampak on September 23 at about 5:30 pm.
The individuals were identified as one Doupao alias Paopao Khongsai, 32, son of Late Thongkam Khongsai of Kamu Saichang village and Thankhulun Khongsai, 27, son of Jamkhulan Khongsai of Kamu Saichang village.
It said that an extortion demand letter of KLO/KLA, six live ammunitions of US carbine, five live ammunitions of AK-47 and one mobile handset were seized from their possession.
