Ideal Girls college students against closure of college

IMPHAL, Sept 28: The Students’ Union of the Ideal Girls’ College, Akampat, has reprobated the order of the directorate of university and higher education for the closure and subsequent amalgamation of one of the important women’s college of the state, Ideal Girls’ College, with another college.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon at the premises of the college, general secretary of the Students’ Union, A Sonia Devi, stated that the order from the directorate for the closure and amalgamation of the women’s college with another college is really against the interests of the women’s of the state who are lagging behind their male counterparts in the field of education.

Moreover, the closure of a women’s college is very much in contrast to the India government’s policy of women empowerment, she said.

The Students’ Union also appealed to the state government to revoke the order for the closure and subsequent amalgamation of Ideal Girls’ College with another college in view of uplifting the standard of higher education in the state.

Further, the Students’ Union drew attention of the concerned authority to improve the necessary infrastructure of the college instead of closing down the college or amalgamation of it with another institute.

Sonia further said state government should take up the needful steps to ensure quality education to the women of the state.

She also said that Students’ Union of the college have to launch stern agitation if the concerned authority fails to fulfill the demands of the girl students.
