IDU transmission of HIV/AIDS comes down to 1 percent

IMPHAL, Sep 7:  The 13th Foundation Day of the Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) was celebrated today at MDU hall in Imphal.
On the occasion eminent film maker and Padmashri awardee A Shyam Sharma graced the function as chief guest, Medical Superintendent of RIMS, Dr. Y Mohen, Nodal Officer of ART Centre in JN Hospital and Chief Editor of ISTV, Y Rupachandra were the guests of honor and General Secretary of MNP+ presided over the function.

In his speech Shyam Sharma contended that in order to improve the violent situation prevailing in the state due to the involvement of drug users in arms activities, the MNP+ and organizations working in the field must press into work relentlessly.

Shyam Sharma further said that battling HIV/AIDS cent percent could only be possible with the joint effort of the people.

According to Dr. Priyo Kumar, there are 6,500 children living with HIV/AIDS. He said transmission of the HIV virus from IDU has reduced to less than one percent adding most of the virus transmission is due to hetero-sexual behavior and from mother to child.

A video cassette was also released by the chief guest Shyam Sharma on the occasion.
