Irawat birth anniversary gets underway

IMPHAL, Sep 1: The 114th Birth Anniversary observation of Jananeta Hijam Irawat which is to last for a whole month was kicked off today at the Aribam Mandop in Singjamei organized  by the Irawat Celebration Committee and CPI Singjamei local council.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Ph Parijat was the chief guest of the function and those who were present included MLA Mangi, Moirangthem Ibohal, N Binoy, Retd. Col RS Jassal, RB Minthing, L Lalit and Dr. M Nara.

Floral tributes were offered at the portrait of Hijam Irawat on the occasion. A book was also released by the chief guest written by N Binoy.ss
The chief guest during his speech said that the people of the hills and the valley should stop being self-centred. RV Minthing said that unity  and communal harmony was possible only with the participation of the peope. The government could hardly do anything, he said while maintaining that people’s integration was the most important thing.

He also suggested that the place where Irawat died should be built as any memorial.

N Binoy said that the people should know how the various people here have come up to this stage. Those who do not know anything about their society should not try to become revolutionaries as they would not gain anything from it.

To get peace and harmony in the state one should closely observe the doings of Hijam Irawat and learn from him, he said.
