MPP demands resignation of CM

IMPHAL, Sept 13: The Manipur Peoples Party has demanded immediate resignation of chief minister O Ibobi Singh on moral ground ground for making false statement during the Manipur Legislative Assembly session with regard to the July 23, 2009 Khwairamband firing incident.

In a statement, the MPP said chief minister O Ibobi Singh made a false and fabricated statement on the floor of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on July 23, 2009 regarding the firing incident occured on the same day at Khwairamband Keithel in which two person including a pregnant woman were slain.

The statement as given by the chief minister on the day at the floor of the state assembly and that of the CBI’s preliminary report about the incident are very much in contrast and hence the chief minister, who also holds the Home portfolio should resign on moral ground for misleading the people, the MPP said.

Regarding the report about some police personnels seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the case, the MPP said such pleas should never be granted.

In the meantime, the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Th Rabina, Lamshang has said justice is in sight with regard to the July 23, 2009 Khwairamband firing incident following CBI’s chargesheeting nine police personnels involved in the incident.

In the release, the JAC said five police personnels who were never mentioned in the CBI report are seeking anticipatory bail apart from the nine police personnels mentioned by the CBI. The JAC also asked whether these five police personnels were involved in the incident.

The JAC further warn that people are ready to resume severe forms of agitation if justice is not delivered on the Khwairamband firing incident.
