Non-local shot at, hurt badly but out of danger; Another attack on Singjamei woman’s house

IMPHAL, Sept 16: A 55-year-old non-local Dhobi (washerman) was shot at and injured by two unidentified militants near City Jr. High School, Takhellambam Leikai under Imphal West district police this evening around 6 pm.

The injured non-local was indentified as Rajendra Prasad, 55, of Bihar presently residing at a rented house belonging to one Konsam Somerendro of Takhellambam Leikai. He sustained one bullet at his right lower ear which exited through his mouth.

According to a local source, the victim Rajendra Prasad was reportedly shot at point blank by two unidentified militants while he was loitering around the City Jr High School this evening. The assailants hurriedly left the spot after committing the crime.

In the meantime, the victim who is popular in the locality after his long stay there as a Dhobi was evacuated to the RIMS hospital this evening by people from the locality.

The injured non-local is reportedly out of danger. The Imphal West police have registered a case in connection with the shooting incident.

Meanwhile, in a bizarre incident armed miscreants attacked the residence of one Nongthongbam ongbi Ibeyaima, wife of late N Samu of Singjamei Wangma Bheigabati Leikai, by firing about three rounds, under Singjamei police station early morning today.

According to the family sources, the incident occurred around 7 am this morning when the unknown attackers who came on a red colored Honda Activa made fired indiscriminately at the residence which resulted in damage to several household properties.

However, there were no human casualties during the attack. The motive behind the attack is also yet to be ascertained. In the meantime, the Singjamei police have registered an FIR relating to the incident after conducting thorough investigations at the spot this morning itself.
