Seven militants nabbed in CI operations

Imphal, Sep 13: At least five cadres belonging to separate underground organisations were apprehended by the security forces during counter insurgency operations since the last two days.

A team of Imphal West district police commandos acting on credible information arrested an active woman cadre of underground PLA identified as Khwairakpam Tombi alias Shanti alias Memcha, 60, wife of late Kh Ibohal Singh of Ngakha Lawai, Moirang from the front of Job Creation Centre, Keishampat.

Official sources further mentioned that on spot verification she disclosed that she joined the outfit in the year 2003 through one Ningthou alias Ibomcha alias Ibohal. She also further disclosed that she was assigned to extort a huge amount of money from contractors, government departments, and general public for party funds.

In yet another incident, a team of Imphal East district police commandos apprehended three cadres of the underground KYKL identified as Sorokhaibam Saratchandra, 47, son of late S Brajabidhu of Pourabi Mayai Leikai, Salam Ibomcha Singh alias Premkumar, 33, son of S Ibopishak Singh of Pourabi Awang Leikai and Laishram Rabi Meitei, 30, son of L Ibobi Meitei of Pourabi Awang Leikai from Sawombung crossing.

According to an official statement of the SP Imphal East, one 9mm pistol loaded with one magazine containing eight live rounds was recovered from the possession of Sorokhaibam Saratchandra. On spot verification the arrested persons revealed to the police that they joined the outfit in the year 2007 through one S/S Private Chalamba who is working under the command of S/S Finance Commander Amudon alias Sunder of Keibi Taret Khun and they had been involved in extortion of money from the general public, government officials and businessmen among others.
Further, on the same day, another combined team of commando Imphal East and personnel of 23 Assam Rifles arrested a cadre of KCP (City Meitei) identified as Konsam Naocha Singh alias Lammeithanbi, 30, son of K Meipak of Huidrom Litam Makhong from Huidrom village on September 10, the source added.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Thoubal commandos and 21 AR conducted search operations at Wabagai Lamkhai bazaar and apprehended two cadres of the UPPK at around 10.30 pm yesterday, a release from the Thoubal SP has said.

The cadres were identified as Angom Krishnamani alias Rishakanta alias Nongdup, 38, son of A Nilamani Singh of Singjamei Mathak Thokchom Leikai and Khundrakpam Doren alias Yotin, 44 years, son of Mani Singh of Sagolband Lukram Leirak Part-III.

On questioning they disclosed that they are active members of the UPPK and were working in the finance section of the organization, the release said.
