Six more UGs give up arms before security top brass

IMPHAL, Sep 7: Right after the surrender of three cadres of the underground PLA to top security officials yesterday, six more militants from different outfits lay down their arms before the DGP of Manipur, Y Joykumar and IGAR(S) Major General CA Krishnan today at IGAR(S) Mantripukhri.

Those who surrendered today included three cadres from the People’s Liberation Army, two from the KCP and one from the UPPK.
The cadres were identified as Huidrom Awangamba, 23 years, son of Khomei of Sandangkhong Sugnu Thoubal who was a cadre of the PLA since 2007 and surrendered along with one 9 mm gun, magazine and four live rounds. His army number was 2935 and he belonged to the 35th batch of the PLA who trained in Burma; Laishram Priyobrata alias Meino Meitei, 32 years, son of L. Rupachandra of Chairel Khongnang Leikai Sugnu Thoubal, whose army no. was 2287 of  the PLA. He surrendered with one 9 mm pistol with magazine and two live rounds; and Lt. corp. Haobijam Gyaneshore Meitei alias Sanahan alias Lamyanba, 19 years, son of H Prem Meitei of Napet Sugnu Bishnupur district of PLA outfit army no. 2905.

The cadres of the KCP are Private Heigrujam Ngongo Meitei alias Tondonba, 20 years, son of H. Amuba of Sugnu Napet Buishnupur district KCP 163 Bn. batch no.16 who trained in Burma; Private Ningthoujam Dolen Singh alias Chinglen, 21 years, son of Khoidum of Napet Mayai Lambi Sugnu Bishnupur District army no. 2040 of KCP who trained in Burma.

The UPPK cadre was identified as RK Naochouba alias Indrajit, 27 years, son of late RK Angousana of Chajing Narang Konjin Wangoi, UPPK Batch no. 22, who surrendered with one AK 47 and magazine and 20 live rounds of ammunition.

While speaking at the surrender ceremony held at IGAR(S) auditorium hall at Mantripukhi, DGP Manipur Y. Joykumar expressed his happiness over the cadres who returned from a life of darkness and lay down their arms for normal life.

He further said that the state government is looking forward to the Assam Rifles in the state to also take initiative for the comfortable surrender of cadres of different outfits.

In the meantime, speaking to mediapersons after the ceremony DGP Manipur Y. Joykumar said that the state home department has taken serious view of the monetary demands which are frequently made in valley area schools and colleges and would not keep silent in the matter, adding that the government would take steps against the police personnel who were involved in this matter.

He further said that most of those involved in this crime are suspected to be drug addicts, over ground militants as well as widows without support.

In Don Bosco School monetary demands of Rs. 250 per teacher are minor, which are however also not correct. The government’s objective is to make education a free Zone from any disturbances and so the government would not keep silent in these matters, he added.
