Six UGs nabbed, arms recovered

IMPHAL, Sep 10: Security forces arrested six different activists of militant groups operating in the state and also recovered a huge cache of weapons, in separate counter insurgency operations launched in different parts of the state.

A statement issued by the PIB Defense Wing stated that the troops of Red Shield Division arrested one overground worker of KCP (MC) namely Wahengbam Kabi Singh, 34, son of Wahengbam Pheijao Singh, resident of Arong Makha Leikai, Thoubal district from Khordak Area of Thoubal district. He was involved in extortion and terrorist activities, it said.

The statement further asserted that a combined team of 33 Assam Rifles and Bishnupur police commandos along with IRB personnel acting upon information launched a special search in Khordak area of Thoubal district. During the operation the troops arrested one Wahengbam Pheijao Singh this afternoon and recovered huge cache of weapons from him. The team recovered five bombs of RPG, three bombs of mortar, one sight of sniper rifle, one Chinese mine and one telescopic sight. The arrested overground worker of KCP (MC) has been handed over to Kumbi police station, said the release.

Discovering the presence of UG cadres in Huidrom, troops of 23 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector and 39 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched joint operation in the area and apprehended one KCP (City Meitei) at around 10 pm on September 9. The cadre was identified as Naocha alias Lamaithandi, 30 years, son of Maipak, resident of Huidrom.

Another statement issued by the SP Imphal East district police, said the police commandos of the district arrested one KCP (K.K Nganba) cadre and an arms smuggler in separate incidents.

It said that on September 8 a commando team arrested one Mutum Naobi Meitei alias Kori, 29, son of M. Mangi of Heingang Makha Leikai Thongjao Makhong, an active member of KCP (K.K Nganba) from Dav Public School, Sangakphal at about 10:30 am.

The team in yet another incident arrested an arms smuggler on September 9 about 6:25 am namely Leivon Relanthang Kom alias Lanpu, 56, son of Late Leivon Athang Kom of Loktak Project Lower Komkeirap, from Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak. One 9mm pistol made in Italy, body no.11117 (black in colour), and one magazine were recovered from his possession. On verification he disclosed that he brought arms from Myanmar and Dimapur and supplied the same to various UG groups in Manipur.

Further, a statement issued by the SSP Thoubal district police said the commandos of the district police arrested one KYKL (MDF) sympathizer while conducting frisking and checking duty at Thoubal bazar on September 9 around 8:30 pm.

The individual is identified as one Wahengbam Thaba Singh, 38, son of Late W. Bamonjao Singh of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai at present residing at Singjamei Kshetri Leikai.
