Tourism Day competitions aim at boosting tourism in state

Imphal, Sep 25: The state Tourism department is celebrating the World Tourism Day on the theme ‘Tourism and Bio Diversity’ on September 27 this year at the conference hall of the Hotel Imphal in Imphal.
According to an official statement of the state Tourism department, the directorate is to propagate tourism by organising essay writing competition on the topic ‘Tourism Potential and Problems in Manipur’ as a part of the World Tourism Day observation. The first three best essay writers will be given cash prizes of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1000 respectively in order of merit. The directorate has also initiated a competition on still photography. The photographs are to be exhibited at the venue of the function from 10 am and selection is to be done by the experts.

The official statement further mentioned that Cash prizes of Rs. 5000, Rs. 4000, Rs. 3000, Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1000 will be awarded to the first five best photographs selected by a team of experts, and certificates of participation will be given to all the competitors of essay writing and photography.

Prof. N Mohendro Singh and L Somorjit Singh will be speaking on the topics “Tourism and Economies in Manipur” and “Tourism and Bio Diversity” respectively as resource persons. The prize distribution and deliberations on the above topics will start at 2 pm on the same day, and the function will be graced by E Dwijamani Singh, MLA and chairman of the Manipur Pollution Control Board and KK Chhetry, IAS Commissioner (Tourism), as chief guest and president respectively, the statement added.

The statement further stated that the state has unparalleled potential in tourism. The department has drawn the attention of the public to tourism through such observations and participation to understand the beauty of tourism and to make the state prosperous.
This is the second step of publicity on ‘Manipur Sangai Festival’ which is to be celebrated from November 21 to 30 this year at Palace Compound. The first step has already been taken on September 7 at Dili Haat, at INA market in New Delhi by observing ‘Manipur Day’ in association with the department of Arts and Culture and Commerce and Industries department of the government of Manipur along with Tourism department of Delhi government and Management of Delhi Haat, the official statement added.
