15 injured in police action on mob

IMPHAL Oct 20: At least 15 persons sustained injuries in Thoubal district when Thoubal Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets upon a group of protestors who thronged the police station demanding the release of a person arrested by the Police.

The arrested individual is identified to be one Jamir Khan, 35, s/o Jalaluddin of Sangaiyumphal part-II.
Police arrested Jamir Khan last evening around 7:30 pm along with 9 mm pistol containing five live ammunitions by a combined team of 33 AR and 15 AR from his residence and later handed over to the police station. He is reportedly holding a post of finance secretary of one of the factions of the PULF and former cadre of the NEMF.

However claiming that the arrested persons was an innocent civilian and denying charges leveled by the security forces a group protest comprising of family members, locals yesterday thronged the office of Thoubal Office minutes after the arrest.

Later after clarifications from the SP office that the arrested individual has been handed over to the custody of Thoubal Police station. Subsequently the protestors thronged the Thoubal Police station where situation became tense when police tried to stop the protestors till late in the day.

In an attempting to defuse the enraged mob turning violent police fired several rounds of the tear gas and rubber bullets.
In the firing at least 15 persons were reportedly injured out of which 4 were admitted at RIMS however all the injured victim is said to be out of danger.

The mob also damaged some vehicles of the security forces and other vehicles.
