Army holds peace and harmony meet

    IMPHAL, October 25: A Inter Community Peace and Harmony meet was held at Community Hall, Kwakta, Moirang on 25 Oct 10 by 16 MARATHA LI under the aegis Red Shield Division.

    Prominent local leaders from all the three communities of the area participated in the meeting. The participants included the office bearers of Jammat-e-Ullema, Bishenpur, representing the Pangal community, KSO and Thangjing chiefs association representing the Kuki community, authorities of Moirang town council and pradhans of Meitei villages of the area.

    In his opening address the commanding Officer of 16 MARATHA LI welcomed the participants and assured them of all help in ensuring peace and progress in the area. He also suggested that a peace committee comprising of leaders of all three communities be formed on permanent basis to defuse any crisis situation.

    The suggestion received positive response from the community leaders who also thanked the Army for its initiative in bridging the ethnic divide in the area. They also pledged to pre-empt violence and tense situations in future by solving all lingering and potential disputes through dialogue and reconciliation. They also assured that efforts will be made to identify and prevent any mischief by outsiders. The event was a huge success and will go a long way in preventing any untoward incident in the area.
