IMPHAL, Oct 14 (NNN): For the people of Bunglon village in Manipur, their lives swiveled from being hopeless to one of optimism when the then President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam paid them an unexpected visit during his tour of the State of Manipur on October 16,  2006.
The school is located some 45 km south of the State capital Imphal.
In an attempt to show their respect and appreciation for the visit of one of the Presidents of India, Bunglon High School has been commemorating October 16 every year as Dr Abdul Kalam Day.
Dr. Kalam’s visit was a “manifestation of his love and care for the poor and downtrodden”, given that “the school is located at the most neglected part of Manipur,” the Bunglon School authority said.
Dr. Kalam is the first President of India to have ever set foot on the soil of the southern most district of Manipur. The visit was termed “historic”.
The Bunglon High School authority highlighted some of facilities rendered available by the “great” visit. The Computer and Science Laboratory was made available within six months of the visit to the school as promised and the 5 km Moirang-Bunglon road was black topped and made accessible. “The people of Bunglon and its surrounding area will always remember Dr. Kalam for all times to come”, said the school authority.
Apart from the VIP invitees like Mani Ram Sharma, IAS, Gin Gangte, IIS, Rinku Khumukcham, Joint Editor ISTV, and other dignitaries like village chiefs, social workers, government officials, the people and the media fraternity are solicited, the press release from the school authority said.
