Flood victims charge promised government relief still pending

IMPHAL, 12 Oct: Charges that concern authorities are yet to fully give necessary aids to the flood affected people in the state in the valley areas is growing.

One allegation said in the absence of aid there has been report of one aged women dying out of fear.

According to the report, one aged women of Lilong Arapti Awang Leikai died out of fear when news about flood water reaching in her locality.

Flood victims of valley districts like Thoubal, Lilong Arapti, Imphal East, Bashikhong, Kyamgei area and the victims of Moirang and Nambol Sabal Leikai said relief materials are yet to reach affected areas despite tall claim of the government providing necessary relief.

The victims narrated this while taking part in a relief material distribution function conducted by the Kangleipak Student Association Manipur today at various places.

Speaking to media person, son of late Soibam Memma 62 years wife of S Thagoi of Lilong Arapti Awang leikai, S Somen disclosed that her mother died last Sunday after hearing the news of Iril river-bank breach at Arapti Awang Soibam Leikai and that two house belonging to Soibam Naba and Soibam Shyam were swept away.

He further said that his family and that of his brother were staying in a temporary hut, not in relief camps and said he will do whatever government says if the government helped him and his brother rebuild their houses.

Although the rain has stop, a number of people are still living in relief camps in Thoubal Lilong area like Thoubal Ningombam, Wangkei Ayangpalli, Kongba and Bashikong area.

In Bishnupur district, Nambol and Moirang areas are still facing the hardship due to floods.

Some people at the relief camps claimed that their concerned MLAs and social workers distributed some essential commodities and drinking water.
In the meantime, the Kangleipak Student Association has distributed more than 100 quintal of rice, 3 bags of Dal, 8 bags of salts, candles and minor illness pill at relief camps in Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur districts.

While speaking to the media Pradeepkumar, president of Kangleipak Student Association said the association will bring more help in interest of general public.
