Four UG cadres, two sympathisers held by combined govt forces

IMPHAL, Oct 30: Security forces arrested at least four militant cadres and two overground workers in separate counter insurgency operation launched in different part of the state.

In the first incident, a combined team of Imphal East CDO and 28 AR Andro post apprehended one cadre of the proscribed RPF/PLA yesterday from Andro Bazar and recovered many arms and ammunitions from a cache located at Lanthabung Ching in the operation.

The apprehended person has been identified as one Thokchom Dharmachandra alias Paul, 43 son of Goura of Andro Bazar.

Speaking to mediapersons today at his office chamber, additional SP (Ops), Imphal East, M Rajen stated that Dharmachandra was arrested by the combined force from his residence at around 5 pm and one 9 mm pistol along with eight live rounds were recovered from his possession. He joined the outfit under one s/s Lieutenant King alias Ningthou.

On further investigation, he disclosed that the arms and ammunitions taken from one Inao of Khurai near NRL Pump have been deposited in a cache located at Lanthabung Ching. The combined force then conducted operation as per the information and recovered the weapons which included one AK-56 rifle with three magazines and 50 live rounds, one M-16 rifle with three magazines and 30 live rounds and three Chinese hand-grenades.

In the meantime, a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S) said discovering the presence of UG cadres in general area Kienphabi Ward No 7/4 of Ukhrul district, troops of 23 Assam Rifles and 33 Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR (South) launched joint operation in the area and apprehended two PREPAK cadres at around 3.30 am on October 30.

The apprehendees were identified as Shyam, finance collector of PREPAK, 37 of Moirang, Bishenpur and Sana Mathur Singh, 38 son of Ningthou of Kibul Lamjao. Both the apprehendees were handed over to Moirang Police station.

In yet another incident, troops of 39 Assam Rifles launched operation in general area Sekmai and apprehended one overground worker of KCP at around 3 pm on October 29. The apprehendee is identified as Tonjam Arjun alias Naon, 25, son of Bhuban Singh of Lilong Chajing Pukhri Achouba Mapai who was handed over to Imphal Police station.

In another incident troops of 36 Assam Rifles apprehended one KNF (P) cadre named Mr Seiboi Kipgen age 19 and resident of Keithalmanbi yesterday at 4pm. The individual was involved in extortion activities in the area, the statement said.
