FREINDS demand proper nomencalture to three women’s market at Khwairamband bazar

IMPHAL, Oct 24: The Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) has appealed to the state government to give proper nomenclature to the three women’s markets at Khwairamband market which are likely to be inaugurated by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the first week of November.

Addressing a press conference at its office, FREINDS advisor Haobijam Kula stated that the nomenclature of the three women’s markets recently approved by the state government should have done in a proper manner in view of maintaining the historical and cultural identity of the state.

Kula said the FRIENDS would desire the naming of Laxmi Bazar as Emoinu Keithel, Kha Nupi Keithel as Linthoinganbi Keithel and Khwai Nupi Keithel as Khwairamband Ema Keithel.

The nomenclature of these markets should be given in true spirit of the Manipuri culture rather than the pseudo-culture which tarnishes the true identity of the state. The three markets should be named according to the names as suggested like the Dhanamanjuri College or Ghanapyari College which has been named after Maharani Dhanamanjuri and some other eminent personalities of the state, Kula noted.

The state government should try to change the nomenclature of the three women’s markets as soon as possible before the inauguration, he asserted.
