General strike called against realignment of Jiri-Tupul railway line

IMPHAL, October 24: Leveling the Okram Ibobi led SPF government to be remote controlled by Hebron Camp, the JAC for the Restoration of Railway Line from Jiribam to Tupul has decided to call a 24-hours state wide general strike with effect from October 25 midnight.
A release of the JAC said the decision of calling general strike was taken by the JAC as the state government and the concerned authourities including the Ministry of Railways have failed to respond to their previous ultimatums sent to address their grievances regarding the re-alignment of the railway line between Jiribam and Tupul.
It said the JAC had given an ultimatum to the government and the concerned authorities to clarify and take up necessary steps regarding the unapproved realignment of railway lines at the Jiribam-Tupul stretch at the behest of Hebron Camp.
It further claimed that the initial approved alignment has been completely manipulated and changed without the knowledge of the state government by the Ministry of Railways so that Hebron Camp could dominate the whole railway line.
The JAC is compelled to call the general strike as state government had failed to meet the deadline of October 23 set by the JAC.
The JAC along with like minded organizations and societies have further prepared to take up various line of action against the government’s apathy, the statement added.
Alongwith the 24 hour general strike, gheraoing of all work sites of the ongoing railway line will also be taken up apart from imposing complete blockade on both NH 39 and 53 till a positive response from the concerned authorities is visible.
