IMPHAL, Oct 3: A middle-aged man was found dead in suspicious condition at Dongailong Village near Tamenglong district headquarter under Tamenglong police station yesterday at around 11:30 am.
The deceased person has been identified as one Keithellakpam Surchandra, aged 48 years, s/o (late) K. Ibotombi of Soibam Leikai Ahongei Leirak who was working as the head electrician of Electricity Department, Tamenglong Division.
According to family sources, the deceased Surchandra along with two other had gone to JNV staff quarter of Tamenglong district on September 26 last month for electrical repairing, but he did not return to his quarter that day even though the other two accompanists had returned from work.
Surchandra was reported to be missing from September 26 to 29 following which his friends enquired about him at his residence at Soibam Leikai. Finding him not present even at his home the two friends then went back to Tamenglong where the family members consulted the chief of Dongailong Village to trace the whereabouts of Surchandra.
The search party encountered some clothing items of Surchandra near a gorge on October 1 but they could not recover the body. However, the body was recovered the next day from a place which is about 6 kilometers from the quarter where he was staying along with his two friends.
There were marks of bruises and physical torture on the body of the deceased person. The police have also registered an FIR regarding the case.The dead body of the deceased person was later handed over to his family after conducting post mortem examinations at JNIMS.
