Churachandpur, Oct 31: The JAC Khuga Dam has imposed a complete ban on all the ongoing works of Khuga Dam from today in protest against the failure of the Government to meet the agreement reached between the JAC of Khuga Dam.

The development came following a joint meeting held this afternoon comprising of various civil bodies and students’ bodies of the Churachandpur district which includes the ZSF, CDSU, KSO, Kuki Inpi, Hmar Inpi,. Zoumi Council etc.

During the meet the gathering expressed their strong resentment over the failure of the government to keep their promise. Besides that the meet unanimously term the act of the government as a total negligence towards the people.

It may be recalled that on October 18 a meeting was held between the JAC and the cabinet ministers which included the power minister Phungzathang Tonsing, PHED and IPR minister, TN Haokip and IFCD minister N Biren, represented the government.

The meeting came to a gentlemen agreement that all the demands of the JAC will be met on or before the end of October this year.

Some of the key demands of the JAC are that the government should be able to give all the benefits as promised under the provision of the Khuga Dam, no inauguration until the full completion of the project, clearance of pending bills of the local contractors etc.

As the deadline comes to an end today and yet no substantial development was made by the state government following which a meeting was convened today and decided to go ahead with the ban after a deliberate discussion taking serious note of the attitude of the government. Besides the ban on work, the JAC also disallowed opening of all shops and entry of vehicles within the Dam campus.

Meet also took serious note of the IFCD chief engineer for his failure to recall the deadline.

At the same time the agitating body also warned that they will intensify their agitation further.
