Moreh paralysed by joint students strike

MOREH, Oct 4: Proactive agitation jointly launched by the AMSU Chandel district, KSO Moreh Block and Moreh Government Higher Secondary School Students’ Union has given a serious effect on the normal life at the border town of Moreh in Chandel district.

The joint student group of the Moreh Block have launched their agitation on the Imphal Moreh stretch of National Highway 39 since October 2 morning following the failure of the state government to meet the joint demands made by the student groups of the sub division regarding the deputation of a regular principal of Moreh Government Higher Secondary school since the school has been upgraded from a high school before six months back by the state government.

Concerned over the negligence of the state government regarding the issue, the student union of the said school had launched their indefinite bandh along the Imphal Moreh stretch of National Highway 39 since October 2 this month. In the continous progress with the support from the AMSU Chandel district committee, KSO Moreh Block, the ongoing agitation has intensified since yesterday as the joint mass sit in protest was organized at the front of the higher secondary school which was participated by students of various private educational institutions established in the border town.

As a follow up of the agitation, a mass rally was jointly organized today, which started from Moreh Government Higher Secondary school participated by students of various private educational institutions of the area upto ADC Moreh Office, this morning at around 11:30 am and the students participating in the rally surrendered their books to the ADC Moreh Lunminthang Haokip in connection with their demands.
It may be mentioned that due to the prolonged indefinite bandh on the road, entire business transactions of the Moreh Town between the two countries have been severely paralysed, which has caused a serious concern for the people who rely on the road for their livelihood, who has in the meantime appealed to the government to look into the matter at the earliest.

In the meantime, HTC Moreh, Tamil Sangam Moreh and Manipur Mother Council, Moreh and civil society organizations of the area have pledged support to the ongoing agitation of the student bodies of the sub division.
