MPP calls for Ibobi’s resignation

IMPHAL, Oct 29: The Manipur People’s Party (MPP) has demanded the Chief Minister O. Ibobi to resign on moral ground for failing to maintain proper law and order situation in the state.

Speaking to mediapersons at the sideline of sit-in-protest demonstration held against the killing of Thokchom Sanayamba, the president of MPP, Dr. Nimaichand Luwang stated that the SPF government has failed to protect the life and property of the people and it has created a ‘reign of terror’ in the whole state. The recent killing of Zilla Parishad member Thokchom Sanayamba by some unidentified persons is a clear example of the vulnerability of the elected representatives of local bodies of the state. The elected representatives of Gram Panchayat and Zilla Parishad have been repeatedly demanding the state government to provide adequate security but their demands have never been considered by the government and as a result they have become soft targets of so many organizations, he said.

Nimaichand further mentioned that the state government has created a disparity in the functioning of the ADCs and other local bodies like Panchayat and Municipality. The members of ADCs have been provided adequate security following threats and intimidations from some organizations and also ample amount of autonomy has been granted to them under the devolution of power. On the other hand, the local bodies of Panchayat and Municipality have been lagging behind in all aspects as a result of this disparity, he added.
