MPP to urge Sonia to come out with Cong stand on Naga integration

IMPHAL, Oct 29: The Manipur People’s Party (MPP) would urge the Congress President Sonia Gandhi who is visiting the state in the first week of November to announce a clear stand of the Congress Party on the issue of Naga integration.

A release of the MPP said that Naga integration has been a major issue which threatens the territorial integrity of the state. The controversy could have been averted if the Congress Party was sincere enough to think of common welfare of the people of Manipur rather than implementing divisive policies in the state.

It further mentioned that All India Congress Party has once agreed to Naga integration following the merger of United Naga Integrity Council in 1972, but on the other hand the MPCC President Gaikhangam and Chief Minister O. Ibobi have been shouting for safeguarding the territorial integrity of the state in press/media thereby creating confusion amongst the people.

The release further stated that the people of Manipur can have confidence in the words of state Congress leaders only if the AICC declares the agreement signed between UNIC and AICC in 1972 as null and void.
