Open house discussion on SoO

IMPHAL, October 8: An Open House Discussion on “Implementation of Suspension of Operations Agreement and Way Ahead for a lasting Peace” was held at HQ 27 Sector Assam Rifles on October 8, 2010 under the aegis of the Red Shield Division. Major General DS Hooda, VSM**, GOC Red Shield Division presided over the event. The event was an extension of the series of such events conducted earlier. The open house discussion was conducted at a time when the SoO group cadres have moved into designated camps and deposited their weapons in double lock system. The stage is set to take the peace process forward and work out a road map for the future. The large gathering had dignitaries from all walks of life i.e. educationists, tribal leaders, village chiefs, representatives of SoO groups, district administration and security forces.

The audience were informed about the provision/rules and regulations contained in the SoO agreement and thereafter the speakers took turns to deliver talks on subjects like “Contributions of SoO agreement towards Peace and Development”. Tribal Cohesiveness Foundation for Lasting Peace, Challenge of Existing Security Situation”, and “Measures to give impetus to Peace and Development”. Brigadier Surendra Mehta, Commander 27 Sector Assam Rifles discussed the proposed “Road Map and Challenges to Occupation of Designated Camps” with the audience. The representatives of the SoO groups also voiced their opinion.

DS Hooda, Red Shield Division concluded the discussion. Addressing the gathering he reiterated the commitment of the Security Forces to take the peace process forward from the present stage. He also opined that the State Govt or Security Forces alone cannot make it happen, the civil society, NGO’s and Women Organisations have a vital role to play in this whole canvas. The approach and content in the open house discussion was very pragmatic and the audience appreciated the efforts of the Red Shield Division to get all affected parties on one platform to put their minds together and discuss such a live issue, a release has said.
