Planning commission member visits Moreh and inspects development works

MOREH, Oct 31: Planning commission member (NE) BK Chaturvedi and SN Brahmo Choudhury, advisor NE planning commission visited the border town here and discussed about border trade.

The visiting Planning Commission officials arrived at the border town by a special helicopter this morning around 10am.

Immediately upon their arrival, the duo inspected the construction site of the Integrated Check Post and later visited Moreh gate No 11 Namphalong market inside Myanmar territory and inspected market conditions.

DC Chandel, H Deeleep apprised the visiting planning commission officials about trade being carried out between the two countries through Moreh town.

Later, the duo visited Moreh Hospital and inquired about present status of hospital including strength of staffs and infrastructures.

Officials of the state health department apprised the visiting planning commission officials about the current status of the hospital. They also briefed the visiting planning commission officials about the need for development of Moreh Hospital particularly opening of a blood bank and post mortem facility.

Later, a joint meeting was held at the Conference Hall of Moreh Trade Centre in which officers of the 31 AR, BRTF, and officials of the state government. The meeting was also attended by members of Border Trade Chamber of Commerce, Moreh and North East Federation on International Trade (NEFIT).

During the meeting state food analyst proposed setting up of a ‘FOOD PROCESSING CENTRE’ at Moreh.

Giving details about the meeting to mediaperson, O Nabakishore, planning secy, com & industry Manipur said bandh and blockade coupled with other unwanted activities gives severe impact to trading along the international border. He also disclosed that trade volume of trade in the last 9 years ( import & export) reached Rs 1,78,90,95,081 and about Rs 1.50 crore transactions per day.
