Police havildar amongst three killed in road mishap

IMPHAL, Oct 31: At least three persons including a havildar of Manipur Police were killed in separate road mishaps which occurred in different parts of the state during the past 24 hours.

In the first incident, a havildar of Manipur Police attached to CDO, Imphal West identified as Bijoy Tarao of Tarao village Chandel presently staying at a rented room in Hatta Soibam Leikai, Imphal East was knocked down by a speeding truck.

The incident occurred near the MMTA complex at Minuthong bridge this afternoon around 2pm.

Reports said Tarao was full in police uniform and he was heading to CDO Complex in a rickshaw at minuthong when the accident happen. He died instantly at the spot as the tata truck knocked the rickshaw down, the source added.

The registration number of the truck is MN04/A 2854 and the driver along with the truck have been picked up by police.

Fortunately the rickshaw puller identified as Md Salaodin was unharmed. In the meantime, the City Police Imphal has arrested the truck driver and also registered an FIR. In another road mishap two youth succumbed to injuries when a Honda Activa they were riding smashed to a parked tata truck.

The incident occurred last evening at about 5:30 pm under the Sekmai police station at place between Maharabi and Tengdongyang along NH-39. The deceased youths are identified as M Pradeep, 21, son of M Pishak and Kh Bronson, 23 son of Babu of Awang Leikenthabi.
