IMPHAL, October 13: The Senapati District Students Association has today sent a reminder to the minister for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India of the various petitions submitted to the office of the Ministry and the various memorandum of Understanding signed by representatives of the ministry regarding the handover of the maintenance and black topping of National Highway 39 to the Border Road Organization.
The letter, signed by A Pfokrenril Khrasi, president of the student union has questioned the neglecting attitude of the ministry regarding the matter. Citing that the last petition was submitted more than a year ago, it has stated that even though a year has already the ministry has failed to handover the highway to the BRO.
It has also stated that the memorandum of understanding was signed on behalf of the ministry on 24th November, 2008 at Senapati District Head quarter by Vijay Chibbar, additional secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and again by G.K. Pillai, home secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India on his maiden visit to Senapati Distr-ict head quarter on 22nd August 2009, however the government of India has yet to commit to the assurance provided by the representatives to seriously consider the memorandum submitted by the student association .
While decrying the act of the ministry of handing over the highway to the state owned PWD, it has further called upon the ministry to revoke the order/agreement of handing over the highway to the State owned PWD at the earliest possible.
