Two extortionists nabbed by Yumnam Huidrom locals

    IMPHAL, Oct 5: The locals of Yumnam Huidrom Mayai Leikai nabbed two suspected UGs involved in assaulting a youth in the locality yesterday at around 10 pm.
    According to sources, the incident happened when four unidentified persons came to the residence of Y Kuladhaja, 52, son of late Y Bijoy, who is currently working as deputy range officer of Forest Department at Jiribam.
    The source further said the four unidentified persons had come to have talks with Kuladhaja and after having heated conversations, the unidentified persons threatened the forest officer by whipping out a hand-gun. A confrontation between the forest officer and the unidentified person occurred and in the ensuing struggle a shot fired by the miscreants injured the nephew of Kuladhaja, namely Surchandra @ Ibomcha, aged 25 years. He sustained bullet injuries near the forehead.
    In the aftermath of the incident, hues and cries were raised by the family members thereby alerting the local people. The local people then organized a manhunt for the miscreants and found them at Ibudhou Sanker Dev Temple after a thorough search.
    The apprehended persons were identified as Samjetsabam Pradip @ Pandit (26), s/o S Ango of Uchal Phurmakhong, Andro, and Yumnam Ithem @ Laija (24), son of Ranjit of Uyumpok Makha Leikai.
    A team of CDO attached to Wangoi police station arrived at the spot and conducted thorough search in the area from where they recovered a hand-gun allegedly used by the miscreants in assaulting the youth.
    The two apprehended armed miscreants were then handed over to the police.
    Condemning the incident happened last night, the Meira Paibis of Thiyam Leishangthem and Yumnam Huidrom staged a sit-in-protest at Ibudhou Sangker Dev Temple and further resolved that no strangers will be allowed in the premises of Yumnam Huidrom and Thiyam Keishangthem from 6 pm to 6 am with immediate effect.
