IMPHAL, Oct 30: United Nations working group of enforced and involuntary disappearance will take up an investigation regarding the whereabouts of UNLF chairman RK. Meghen @ Sanayaima.
A petition by Ibemnungshi, wife of the UNLF chairman, the missing report of the insurgent leader has been submitted to the WGID last week.
The petition appraised the UN body of the situation and it is learnt a formal investigation will begin as per the case.
A complaint by Ibemnungshi to the WGID on prescribed form had been sent to the UN body on the October 27.
Meanwhile many more civil society organizations of the state have urged the concerned authority to give details of the whereabouts of the chairman of proscribed UNLF RK Meghen who was reportedly arrested by Bangladesh Police and Indian Intelligence agencies from Dhaka.
The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup, in a statement, has appealed to both the state and Central government to give details about the whereabouts of RK Meghen.
The Apunba Lup further stated that India and Bangladesh being the signatories of Universal Declaration of Human Rights should not violate the fundamental rights of a person by concealing the whereabouts of an arrested person. The authorities of both India and Bangladesh should give a clarification on the arrest of RK Meghen and conduct free and fair trial according to the law of the land, the Apunba Lup statement demanded.
The Sharmila Kanba Lup, Mahila Madal Langthabal Khunou, Rural Development Women’s Society, Laphupat Tera and MOMNU Eerikkhombee Lup (MEEKHOL), have also demanded disclosure of the whereabouts of RK Meghen.
