IMPHAL, Nov 16: Kidnapped Section Officer of the Manipur University Engineering Cell was rescued by a team of Imphal West district police commandos during a rescue operation conducted at Lilong Arapti and police apprehended two among abductor belong to underground PREPAK.
According to police sources a team of Imphal West police Commandos on getting specific information that some unidentified militants are keeping a captive at Lilong Arapti areas, made a swift operations since morning and the abducted SO Th Dolal Meitei was rescued from inside a hut near by a foothill this afternoon.
The source also mentioned that two abductors who were keeping vigil at that hut were also apprehended and later they were confirmed to be members of the underground PREPAK.
It may be mentioned that the whereabouts of the SO remained untraced since last five days after he was allegedly abducted by some unidentified persons suspected to be militants on his way to his office on Novembner 11morning, and later the abductors informed the family that, Dolal was in their custody in connection with a monetary demands of work undertaken at MU.
In connection with his abduction locals of Khongman Zone-V and family members staged a sit in protest on November 14 at Khongam Community hall.
Briefing media persons Senior SP, L. Kailun said that Dolan was abducted for a ransom of Rs. 72 lakhs and he was threatened with dire consequences if the family failed to comply with the demand.
The SSP asserted that on receiving specific information about the where about of the victim a special rescue operation was planned under the command of the Additional SP, AK. Jhalajit and his officers which included DSP, S. Ibombcha, DSP Krishnatombi, inspector Kesorjit.
The team surrounded the area and taken the abductor by surprise forcing the militants to surrendered lamely without any firing and able to rescue the victim around 11 am today.
The arrested individual have been identified as one Yumnam Amarjit Singh alias Ibungo, 37, s/o Y. Ibohal Singh of Arapti Chingol Leikai and Wahengbam Deban Singh, 30, s/o W. Khurai Singh of Singh of Arapti Mayai Leikai.
The police team recovered one 9mm pistol along with five live ammunitions.
L. Kailun, SSP, also revealed that Amarjit was earlier involved in the abduction of one finance officer Shyamjai of Manipur University in the year 2009. he carried out the abduction of Dolan under the instruction of one S/S Lt. Takhellambam Victor alis Thonglen of the outfit.
While stating that further investigation in the case is on, the SSP assured that the others individual who were involved in the kidnapping will soon be arrested.
The police was officially informed by the victims’ family on November 14, said the SSP adding he lauded the support of some individuals in making the operation a successful one.
It may be recalled that Dolan was abducted on November 11 at about 8:30 in the morning near the MU main gate.
Official source revealed that Dolan along with three other associates returned from MU after conducting measurement of repairing works of Type-VI quarter of Block-V of MU. When they reached Canchipur-Kyamgei junction road, four unknown persons on a white Maruti 800 car stopped them and abducted him.
He was brought up to Urup Litan bridge and then transporter to Arapti Chingol using an NV Vespa bearing registration number MN1Q-1394 by two persons. After he was abducted a sum rupees 72 lakhs was demanded to the University officials by the proscribed PREPAK.
