IMPHAL, 29 Nov: Two among the 10 augmented water supply scheme proposed for the Chandel district under the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resource (NLCPR) were formally launched today by the state PHED minister TN Haokip at Khambathel and Unopat village in Chandel district.
Initially the state PHED minister conducted formal launching of completed schemes of the Augmentation of Water supply scheme at Khambathel village this morning around 9 am and later continued another inauguration of the similar schemes at Unopat village this noon.
The inauguration function was attended by a large gathering of local public and a public function was also organized with the chief guest by the state PHED minister TN Haokip at the scheme site. The minister while speaking at the public function mentioned that the Central government has approved constructions of 10 Augmentation of Water Supply schemes in Chandel under NLCPR during April 2008.
With the release of funds meant for the construction, the department has taken up schemes at Khambathel and Unopat withan estimated cost of Rs. 297.05 lakhs for both scheme.
The minister further mentioned that the inaugurated water supply scheme are having components of settling tanks with a capacity of 35,000 litres and slow sand filters with 25,000 litres capacity, have been installed at the Unopat Water Supply, Service Reservoir.
Zonal reservoirs with 6,000 liters capacity each have also been provided to the Unopat Water Supply and the Khambathel Water Supply respectively he said. Water has been tapped from different perennial sources by gravity flow that is Ningkhamlok and Chuwlu lok he further said adding in all 10 water supply facilities are to be construct at the neighbouring area of the Chandel.
PHED minister said there is probability for handing over responsibilities of constructing the remaining water supply scheme to the recently elected ADCs.
The inaugural function today was attended by the local MLA Thangkholum Haokip, Principal Secy. W Hangsing, chief Engineer PHED, Imomacha, Addl chief engineer PHED L. Ibomcha, members of ADC Chandel and officials of PHED today.
