Bangladesh Communist Party claims Meghen in RAW custody in India: CPI

IMPHAL, Nov 22: Manipur State Council of the Communists Party of India, CPI, said the Bangladesh Communist Party has informed them that the leader of the underground UNLF, RK Meghen alias Sanaiyaima who went missing after he was reportedly arrested by a combined team of Bangladesh security and a team of Research and Analysis Wing, RAW, from Dhaka, is still in the custody of the RAW in India.

This was informed to the IFP today by the secretary of the Manipur State Council CPI, L Iboyaima on telephone.

Elaborating, he said according to the chairman of the Bangladesh Communists Party, Mansur Hassan Khan, as per investigation conducted by his party, it was learnt that the chairman was arrested by a combined team of Indian intelligent agency, RAW, and its Bangladeshi counterpart from Lalmatia area of country capital Dhaka under Mohammadpur police station while he was traveling in a vehicle bearing registration No. G/17-0716 on the October 29 afternoon.

He further mentioned that, sources from Dhaka have also affirmed that, the UNLF leader was handed over to the Indian authorities by the Bangladesh police and flown to New Delhi in an Indian Aircarft soon after he was arrested.

Iboyaima said in connection with the failure of the concern government authorities to clarify on the whereabout of the UNLF leader, the CPI central unit has expressed concern over the matter of how the whereabouts of a citizen of a country is left obscure even after the news of his arrest was widely published.

Relying on these information the CPI national secretary, AB Bardhan on behalf of the CPI has written an official letter to the Prime Minister of India on November 19, he said.

The official letter mentioned that the news of RK Meghen’s arrest was first broadcasted over the BBC news followed by other electronic media on and from October 14, Iboyaima said.

The letter mentioned that an FIR No.1981 dated 29-09-2010 was lodged at the Mohammadpur police station, Bangledesh in connection with the arrest and also that he was handed over to the Indian authorities by the Bangladhesh police and flown to New Delhi in an Indian Aircraft, he said.

Since then whereabouts of the RK Meghen has remained a mystery, the letter said.

The official letter to the Prime Minister of India also mentioned that, the situation in connection of RK Meghen’s missing has come to such a pass where the Indian as well as the Bangladeshi authorities are neither denying nor confirming the arrest of RK Meghen, the letter said, according to Iboyaima.

Further, it has been learnt that the wife of the RK Meghen has already submitted a letter to the Prime Minister to let the family know the arrested man’s whereabouts, the letter mentioned.

In remaining silent without following the due process of law is in gross violation and transgression of the basic right to life and liberty as guaranteed by the Constitution of India and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.Finally, the official letter drew the attention of the Prime Minister of India.

It also called on the Prime Minister to look into the matter and reveal the arrest of RK Meghen and make his whereabouts known to the public at the earliest, and failure to do so would give rise to all sorts of apprehensions and fuel turmoil in the state of Manipur, the official letter mentioned.

Meanwhile in continuation of demands for the whereabouts of the UNLF chairman various social organizations have demanded from the state governmenment to clarify on the issue of the arrest of the UNLF chairman.

Many staged sit-in-protest to demand the concerned authority to reveal the whereabouts of the chairman of UNLF, RK Meghen.

The organizations are Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), EECHAL, Universal Mothers’ Organization (UMO), Lamboi Khongnangkhong Apunba Nupi Lup, Heibongpokpi Nupi Samaj, Moirang Hanuba Chaokhat Khongthang Meira Paibi Lup, Langjing Achouba Makha Leikai Meira Paibi Lup, Takyel Kolom Leikai Meira Paibi Lup and Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup.
