Environmental clearance likely for Loktak Downstream project

IMPHAL, Nov25: Sanctioning of clearance from the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Government of India to the proposed Loktak Downstream project in Bishnupur district is expected in the near future.

According to a highly placed official source, officials of the Environment and Forest, government of India had conducted a full length survey of proposed power project in Manipur in order to accord clearance from the concern ministry.

The survey was conducted by BN Jha, additional principal chief conservator of forest, NE region, Shillong.

BN Jha arrived in the state capital on November 21 and started his survey at the barrage sites of the project along the National Highway 53 upto Tupul and Thangal village on November 22.

The visiting official also went to interior portions of Loktak lake including Keibul Lamjao National Park and Loktak project at Leimatak on November 23.

The source further said the Central officer also conducted aerial survey of the proposed Loktak Downstream project from a helicopter and viewed the interior hilly terrains of the proposed project.
