General strike called against youth’s killing

IMPHAL Nov 19: The JAC formed against the killing of Mangoulein Haokip has called an indefinite statewide general strike with effect from 6am of November following the failure of the government to meet demands of the JAC.

Some representatives of the JAC along with family members of the deceased youth met with chief minister at the later’s office today but failed to arrive at any significant development.

Mention may be made that Mangoulein Haokip was shot dead by some armed person on November 17 at, Game village, Langol.

The JAC had demanded the arrest of the culprits involved in the crime and compensation to the beraaeved family according to Kuki customary law. The JAC also demanded proper compensation to the bereaved family including a white coloured job to next of kin. The JAC also demanded opening of a seperate police station at Langol area to prevent any untoward incident in future.

It may be mentioned that, some armed miscreants shot death Mangoulein Haokip at National Games village, Langol on Nov 17 while he was participating in a dice gambling locally known as Lagao.

He was staying at the Zone-IV, National Game Village quarter (No. B-149).

Family sources had stated that the victim is a graduate from Manipur University and pursuing a diploma course in Pharmacy in Dibrugrah University, Assam.

The victim along with some of his friends were joining a dice game at the area organized by two of the locals namely Md. Aboy and one Romen when minutes later two unidentified persons coming in a Santro Car (red in colour) bearing registration number AS-4641 joined the game and subsequently after few moments one of the two miscreants pulled out a small arms and shot the victim at point blank range following an altercation.
