IMPHAL, Nov 18: All Manipur Students’ Guardians Organization (AMSGO) has decried the deprivation of education of the students of government schools of the state in the wake of cease work strike launched by the teachers under the aegis of the Council of Teachers’ Associations (COTA).

Government teachers under the aegis of the COTA are on cease work strike since November 15 in demand for implementation of 6th central pay in toto to teachers.

Addressing a press conference at the office of AMSGO located at Palace Compound today, advisor of AMSGO, N Tomba stated that the demands of the government school teachers are just and reasonable as per the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the state government and various employees’ unions. The state government should be held responsible for the deprivation of education of the government school students who belonged mostly to economically backward classes and rural areas.

The state government should at once fulfill the demands of the teachers and ensure education to the students at this crucial juncture, he said.

The general secretary of AMSGO, O Yaima stated that teachers are held in high esteem in other countries unlike Manipur. They are given adequate salaries along with ample provisions regardless of primary school or university.

He said that the government school teachers have been deprived of their basic amenities and made to live a sub-standard life by the state government by not implementing the 6th pay scale. The teachers have been betrayed by the government which would otherwise result in disruption of academic atmosphere of the state.

The working president of AMSGO, N. Chaoba stated that there is no meaning for the Right to Education Act in the state. The teachers are made to suffer like anything by depriving their rights, he noted.

The president of AMSGO, R Chothe further appealed to the concerned authority to bring an amicable solution to the tussle between the teachers and the government and ensure quality education to the students who will be the future pillars of the society.
