Manipur pavilion showcases typical Manipuri handloom & handicraft

NEW DELHI, Nov 14: Manipur Pavilion at Indian International Trade Fair (IITF) 2010 at Pragati Maidan here showcased State’s typical handloom and handicrafts products produced by the co-operative societies and individual entrepreneurs representing from all nine districts of Manipur.

Apart from State’s varied handloom and handicrafts products, the Pavilion also showed the immense tourist destinations and potentials of Manipur at the entrance of the pavilion by the State Tourism Department through distribution of tourism leaflets, posters and electronic displays.

Films on State’s tourism development, handicrafts and industrial development were shown on the big screen at Pavilion. Manipur Tourism was inviting the visitors to enjoy the 10-day Manipur Sangai Festival commencing from November 21 to 30 at Imphal and various places of Manipur.

For proper arrangement and beautification of the Manipur Pavilion, Ksh. Shantakumar, Director of the Manipur Pavilion stationed at Pragati Maidan since November 11. Manipur Minister of Commerce and Industries Yumkham Erabot also inspected the Manipur Pavilion on November 3 and Manipur Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries O. Nabakishore Singh visited the site on November 12.

Manipur State Day Celebration will be observed on November 27 at 5.30 pm at Lal Chowk Open Air Theatre, Pragati Maidan. The celebration will feature various dance forms of Manipur ranging from folk to classical. Cultural programmes of varied performing arts will performed at Pragati Aangan Theatre, Pragati Maidan daily from November 14-27. Guru Singhajit and Charu Sija Mathur will perform Manipuri classical dance on November 18 at 5.45 pm at Pragati Aangan Theatre. Shakuntala Theatre at Pragati Maidan will screen three classic films daily from November 19 to 27. Moirangthem Maniram’s national award winning Assamese feature film- Mon Jai will be screened on November 23 at 2 pm.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma today inaugurated the 30th edition of India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2010 in the national capital at the Pragati Maidan here which would last upto November 27.

This year at least 23 countries including China , Japan , Korea and several western and eastern countries will showcase their products in the fortnight long trade fair. Japan and Uganda are participating for the first time.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today started selling tickets for the Business Days from November 14 to 18 of the India International Trade Fair (IITF) from the terminal and interchange stations of all its lines.

The sale of IITF entry tickets for general public days will start from November 19 at all 132 Metro stations.

The Business Days tickets are priced at Rs 400 and the General Days tickets are priced at Rs 40 for adults and Rs 20 for children on week days and Rs 60 and Rs 30 for weekends and holidays.

This year’s theme is “Clean and Energy Efficient Technology Products & Services.” Maharastra is the Partner State of the IITF 2010 organized by the India Trade Promotion Organisation. Rajasthan and Chattisgarh are the Focus States of the Fair.
